Invite Your Family Outdoors

A deck isn’t just an alternative to a tiled or slab patio.

Boards feel different under your feet.

Air and heat move differently when there’s no ground contact.

Elevated framing means you can take advantage of otherwise unusable slopes and hills (without worrying about drainage).

Add a pergola for weather protection, and you’ve got the perfect outdoor space – one purpose-built for Gold Coast lifestyles.

Custom Aluminium Decks

Wooden decks aren’t the right fit for every home.

They need annual maintenance and they’re vulnerable to hazards like fire, termites, and rot, which matters if you’re in a heavily forested part of Tamborine Mountain.

Composite isn’t the best alternative either – it’s hotter to walk on than timber and can warp or peel in high temperatures.

Custom aluminium decking blends the best of both worlds: durable enough to outlast your house, but powder-coated to stay cool even in direct summer sun.

Tamborine Deck Replacements

Tamborine Mountain has hundreds of older homes – and many of them feature ageing decks that need replacing.

Rot, warping, and general weathering can all affect a deck’s integrity.

But, often, a new deck is more about improvement than restoration.

A larger floor area, a better aesthetic, a protective pergola – each one can make a deck replacement for your home worth it.

Gary is a great carpenter and deck builder and did a fantastic job

‘Had the pacific patios team recently finish building a composite deck and patio here at our house in Robina.

From the initial measure and quote, to the installation and handover we felt like we were in good hands.

There were a few issues that arose, and it was the quick response from the office staff and Gareths professionalism and skills to rectify the issues that set this company apart from the rest.

Would not hesitate to recommend pacific patios for a deck or patio/pergola build.’

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need council approval for a deck?

Yes, decks normally need building approval from the Scenic Rim Council. The exceptions are:

  • attached decks less than 10 square metres with no side longer than 5 metres
  • detached decks lower than 1 metre above ground and less than 10 square metres with no side longer than 5 metres.

We’ll liaise with council on your behalf before building commences. You don’t need to do anything.

How much does it cost to build a deck on Tamborine Mountain?

The cost of a deck on Tamborine Mountain varies. If you’re happy with a no-frills pine deck, expect to pay around $400 per square metre. For a properly seasoned hardwood deck with features like a pergola, expect to pay upwards of $15,000. (Our average client spends around $18,000.)

Can you build low-profile decks as well as elevated decks?

Yes, we can. Low-profile decks (also known as decked patios) can be laid directly onto a concrete/stone foundation or slightly elevated on a subframe or adjustable pedestals. They’re a great option if you like the feel and aesthetic of decking but don’t have the property slope to justify an elevated deck. (Decked patios also tend to be less temperature-sensitive than tiled or concrete patios, and don’t require the same level of digging or drainage.)

What warranties do you offer?

We offer an 6.5-year structural warranty and a 15-year materials warranty on all new builds. Individual parts and materials may have separate manufacturer’s warranties.

Remember: you’re also covered by the Australian Consumer Law, which means we have a legal obligation to deliver your deck with due skill and care (that is, in line with industry best practices and building codes), for the purposes you’ve told us about, and within a reasonable time.

Can you do timber-look aluminium decks?

Yes, we can. Aluminium decking is the best of both worlds – the durability and low maintenance of composite decking, but without the delamination, melting risks, or environmental issues. Once it’s powder-coated to achieve a timber-look finish, it will stay relatively cool even in direct sunlight. Aluminium decks with steel framing last almost indefinitely, but they are more expensive than traditional timber decks.

Is a deck cheaper than a concrete slab?

Concrete slab patios are generally cheaper than decks. They’re easy to install and require almost no ongoing maintenance. The exception is if you’re building on a sloped block, in which case the earthworks required for a patio can be

What’s better: composite or timber decking?

Composite and timber both have pros and cons as decking materials. Composite boards are often made from a blend of wood fibres and polyethylene that’s capped with engineered polymer. The result is an incredibly durable decking material that’s impervious to rot and termites and needs almost no maintenance.

Composite materials do tend to be hotter than wood, though, which can be a problem over Queensland summers. They’re also vulnerable to melting, warping and peeling when exposed to heat sources like barbecues and intense sun, and, unlike timber decking, can’t be sanded back or repaired. Most importantly, composite decks don’t have the natural beauty of real timber – even the best products feel artificial.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference. If you’re happy to oil and seal your deck once a year (or every 2 to 3 years if it’s covered), then timber might be a better option.
