Patios as Socialising Spaces in Todays World

  • August 29, 2019

The Importance of Socialising

As Aristotle famously once said, man is by nature a social animal. As a result, the importance of socialising with the people we love cannot be understated. Studies have shown that socialising with others has undeniably positive effects on the people involved, and having a space that can allow for this interaction can be a great addition to your home. At Pacific Patios, we make it our job to realise that dream for you.

Positive Association with Physical Spaces

Positively associating a certain place or region with positive memories can also provide a person with positive memories for the place itself, much like as if it were a living person. The book titled ‘Non-places’ by Marc Auge explains in-depth about how places that forge real connections to the people that frequent them are disappearing in this day and age.

He further explains that they are being replaced by more anonymous interactions. These places do not hold significant meaning. Examples include airports, highways, and supermarkets as places that are visited often; without there ever being any meaningful connection to the place being formed. While this trend does provide us with a host of opportunities to help us navigate the modern world efficiently, there comes a clear disconnect between the space and the people that use it.

With the rise of these non-places, we can be reminded of the places which we do feel a connection to. The holiday home that you visited growing up, the local café that makes your favourite coffee, or your backyard deck or patio. These socialising places are an integral part of us because of the memories and relationships created there, and it’s important that we continue to find places that we can connect to. After all, it’s human nature to want to be in places that allow us to socialise naturally.

Patios, Positive Memories and Socialising

Philosophy aside, there are many advantages to having your own place that creates positive memories and a very good example of this is your very own deck or patio. This meaningful space can be used however you see fit and the flexibility means that there is no limit to the fun that you can have with family, friends or even by yourself.

Outdoor spaces such as decks and patios are cherished because of the memories that we can make in them, and the people that we share them with. So if you feel like you are in the market for an upgrade to your outdoor area, we’d love to hear from you! You can contact us at Pacific Patios by phone on (07) 5535 6660.
